A Call to Contemplation in 2018

The NCR's Eco Catholic report of 1/9/18 carried an article by Ilia Delio, OSF, called "2018: Time to become ultra human?"  In a section of her article, Illia emphasized the importance of contemplation. Citing both Thomas Merton and Teilhard Chardin, she said:

Both Merton and Teilhard realized that there is a center of absolute Love, a Oneness and wholeness within us, that is the source of our personal wholeness and the cosmogenic evolution toward unity in love. Each in his own way indicated that contemplation is essential to the active life. The contemplative is one who holds the universe together through the energy of love.

Teilhard placed an emphasis on contemplation as the main source of vitality for cosmic evolution. He believed that contemplative prayer is cosmic power because in some way the contemplative mediates God's creative power.

USCCB Calls for Legislative Solution to TPS

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it will terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for El Salvador as of September 2019. The vast majority of TPS recipients in the U.S. are Salvadoran.

Bishop Joe S. Vásquez of Austin, Texas, Chairman of the Committee on Migration (USCCB/COM), issued the following statement:

"The decision to terminate TPS for El Salvador is heartbreaking. As detailed in our recent delegation trip report to the region, El Salvador is currently not in a position to adequately handle the return of the roughly 200,000 Salvadoran TPS recipients. Today's decision will fragment American families, leaving over 192,000 U.S. citizen children of Salvadoran TPS recipients with uncertain futures. Families will be needlessly separated because of this decision."  To read more, click HERE.
