A Place Called Home

A place called home, a promise for tommorrow;

A place called home, a vision handed down;

A place called home for all God's sons and daughters;

Where love prevails and peace is ever found,

Where hope can find a human habitation;

God grant us all this grace -- a place called home.

(Verse 3)

- Fr. Jan Michael Joncas

We are grateful to Michael Joncas for his permission to use this song as a "theme song" at AUSCP gatherings.

2018 John XXIII Award Recipients

The e-bulletin of February 11th carried the announcement that one of the two 2018 John XXIII award recipients is Fr. Jay Davidson, (Diocese of Evansville). In this bulletin we are happy to announce that the other recipient is Fr. Richard Rohr, a Franciscan priest of the New Mexico Province and founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In his nomination,  AUSCP member Bob Cushing said: "Richard has been a prophetic witness to all that we stand for long before we began our journey as AUSCP. He has mentored thousands of priests and sisters, men and women inside and outside the church by his writings, his teachings and example. I have known him as a friend and mentor for over 40 years and can testify that his life has born the fruits of the Spirit and has changed the face of the church in the image of John XXIII’s vision of church. "

We thank Richard for the inspiration, the insights, and the spiritual nourishment that he has provided, and continues to provide, for so many of us in the spirit of Vatican II.

Congratulations, Richard!

NB. Richard Rohr will give a keynote presentation and conduct a retreat at the 2018 AUSCP Assembly. He recommends that those coming to the Assembly read his book The Naked Now prior to the June Assembly.

National Catholic Call-In Day for DACA

All DACA recipients will lose their status on March 5th if congress does not act before then. USCCB has announced a National Catholic Call-in Day for Monday, February 26. Call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 to reach your senators and representatives. Ask your legislators to protect Dreamers from deportation, to provide them a path to citizenship, and to avoid any damage to existing protections for families and unaccompanied minors in the process.

Catholic Action Day for DACA

Many Catholic groups will rally in Washington, DC on Tuesday, February 27th, to put pressure on legislators to protect DACA recipients. AUSCP member Bishop John Stowe will preside at a Mass. Some participants will risk arrest. Bernie Survil, an AUSCP Founding Father, plans to be among them. More information is available on the PICO website.
