"full-access knowing” … Contemplation is an exercise in keeping your heart and mind spaces open long enough for the mind to see other hidden materials. It is content with the naked now and waits for futures given by God and grace.

Endorsements for Beatification of Ben Salmon
Endorsements are sought for a Letter to the Archbishop of Denver, asking him to initiate The Cause for Beatification of BEN SALMON : www.bensalmon.org. This website has full details on why Ben Salmon merits
to be officially recognized among The Cloud of Witnesses to the nonviolent Jesus, for refusing to be drafted and trained to kill his fellow German Catholics in World War I.
The Letter was initiated by AUSCP’s Gospel Nonviolence Working Group, in partnership with several AUSCP members of Denver, all of whom knew Fr. Charlie Salmon, Ben’s son. The letter already has the endorsement of Bob Bonnot and Dave Cooper of the AUSCP Leadership Team, and Sr. Elizabeth Salmon, MM, daughter of Ben Salmon. Since it’s not a public letter, please ask for the text from email@example.com to help you make an informed decision to endorse.

Working Group on Priestly Formation
The AUSCP Working Group on Priestly Formation spent extensive time researching the various areas of priestly formation, then composed a "white paper" addressing five areas of serious concern: Faithfulness to Vatican II; Call to Service; A Pastoral Model of Priestly Formation; Psychosexual Development and Celibacy; Discernment Processes and Faculty Formation.
The recommendations resulting from the research have been sent to each member of the USCCB's Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life, and Vocations (CCLV), calling for systemic change and offering to participate in the updating of the Program of Priestly Formation. The "white paper" will be the focus of the spring letter that the AUSCP will send to all bishops. The paper will be posted on the AUSCP website soon.
More Action for Dreamers
On Saturday, March 10th, at the annual St. Patrick's Parade, AUSCP member Jim Flynn of Louisville joined friends in a "float" (aka pickup truck) with large and small banners IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES WELCOME with an image of the Holy Family fleeing Egypt. Hundreds of people lined sidewalks along the way and the float received overwhelming signs and cheers of support.
Jim also holds daily one-hour VIGILS with some other priests and friends holding the large banner on busy intersections around Louisville. He wants to continue the VIGILS (aka "Holy Hours") throughout the Spring and Summer. In the above photo Jim is second from the right in the back of the group picture. Thank you, Jim, for your prophetic witness!
The AUSCP website is now carrying a regular blog post by Tony Magliano on justice and Catholic social teaching. You are invited to read it and respond:
Married Priests on 2019 Synod Agenda?
According to an analysis by Dan Hitchens in the Catholic Herald (3/9/18), "Next year’s Amazon synod is coming into focus, after Pope Francis named an 18-person preparatory committee to help draw up the synod’s agenda."
The theme of the 2019 Synod is “Amazonia: new pathways for the Church and for an integral ecology." To read why Dan Hitchens believes the topic of married priests will be on the agenda, click HERE.
Phyllis Zagano, author of Women Deacons: Past, Present, Future (Paulist, 2011), has written an article in US Catholic, "What's the problem with women deacons?" She says, "The same question circles about even now, as the church during the past 50 years continued and continues to absorb the diaconate as a permanent ministry and newly discusses women in it." Her article can be accessed HERE.
Another AUSCP Member Publishes Book
GRACIAS PERU; A MISSIONARY'S MEMOIR - AUSCP member Tom Shea, CSC, has published a book about his 41 years in Peru, 1968-2009, beginning with the exciting Vatican 2 years in the Latin-American church up through the more difficult years that followed. He hopes that many of the AUSCP members can identify his journey with their own. The book is available on Amazon, both as an e book and in paperback.
