How you see is what you see. And to see rightly is to be able to be fully present – without fear, without bias, and without judgment. … Moses could never have seen burning bushes as the Divine … unless he had moved to a higher level of seeing. … We do not see things as they are; we see things as we are.
- Richard Rohr

Catholic Climate Covenant - Action Alert!
Please urge your Senators to support S. 2448, the American Innovation and Manufacturing Act, a bipartisan bill that gives the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) authority to ban hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), potent greenhouse gases used in refrigeration and air conditioning.
The bill establishes a pathway for our nation’s participation in the global phase down of HFCs that could save the world as much as 0.5 degrees centigrade of warming. This bipartisan effort is supported by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, industry, and the environmental community. TAKE ACTION!
Leadership Team Nominations Needed
The next elections to the AUSCP Leadership Team will take place at the Annual Assembly in Albuquerque in June. This year we have one member of the Leadership Team eligible for re-election and three who are completing two terms and thus not eligible for re-election.
Please consider your gifts and see if they match what is needed to serve on the Leadership Team. We welcome diversity in all areas - age, race, ethnicity, diocese, etc. Nominations should be submitted by April 18, 2018.
The deadline is nearing and only one nomination has been submitted. Please give this attention! An email with more information will be sent out on Monday, April 9th.
Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment
A Pre-Synodal meeting of more than 300 young representatives from around the world was held March 19-24 in Rome. In addition, 15,000 youg people participated online through Facebook groups.
A summary of the input will contribute to the Instrumentum Laboris for the Synod of Bishops 2018. The document states: It is our hope that the Church and other institutions can learn from the process of this Pre-Synodal Meeting and listen to the voices of young people.

AUSCP Group Participates in Public Good Friday Stations
In downtown Toledo, Ohio, the Stations of the Cross were prayed publicly on Good Friday. At STATION VIII: Jesus Meets The Women Of Jerusalem, the prayer was led by AUSCP member Tony Gallagher, seen on the left in the above photo. The members of the AUSCP Toledo Chapter helped to sponsor the public Stations which brought attention to present day injustices.
Thank you for your public witness!
New Blog: The AUSCP website is now carrying a regular blog post by Tony Magliano on justice and Catholic social teaching. You are invited to read it and respond:
USCCB Committee on Migration Sends letter to Homeland Security
Bishop Joe Vasquez, Chair of the USCCB Committee on Migration, sent a strong letter to the Secretary of Homeland Security with copies to congressional leaders on March 26th. He said, in part:
The current level of refugee arrivals leaves thousands of vulnerable people in harm’s way and searching for protection. This includes 87 Iranian Christians and other persecuted religious minorities from Iran who were recently denied admittance to the United States. Similarly situated Iranians have been granted admission to the United States at a 99% rate in past years. Further, many of the refugees who are being excluded from arriving and resettling in the United States are among the estimated 5% who cannot remain in refugee host countries that neighbor the home countries they fled. Most often they are at-risk women and children who are
too vulnerable to remain in the region and/or in situations too dangerous for them to wait in the host country until the conflict at home has ended. Others are often part of a religious or ethnic group not welcome by the host country. These trends signify an abdication of our nation’s leadership in humanitarian protection through resettlement and in championing international religious freedom.

The AUSCP Leadership Team is sending a letter of support and appreciation to Bishop Vasquez.
Special thanks to the 249 donors who have responded to the Annual Appeal. We have reached $72,500! We hope to hear from more of you. Please be generous in your response so we can continue to expand the work of AUSCP!
