Meditation

The soul's impulse comes quietly and generously from within; we do not look for payment, reward, or advancement because we have found our soul gift, our inherent gladness. To be an oblate - someone who is offered - is quite different from seeking security, status, or title.

- Richard Rohr

Daily Meditation - 6/1/18

Richard Rohr will give a keynote presentation and conduct a retreat at the 2018 AUSCP Assembly. He recommends that those coming to the Assembly read his book The Naked Now prior to the Assembly.

Ban on women Priests Reaffirmed

An NCR article by Joshua McElwee (May 29, 2018), says that the head of the Vatican's doctrinal office has reaffirmed the Catholic Church's ban on the ordination of women as priests, writing in a new article that the teaching has a "definitive character" and "is a truth belonging to the deposit of faith."

In a short essay available online, published in Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano May 30, Archbishop Luis Ladaria also states that expressing doubt about the barring of women from the priesthood "creates serious confusion among the faithful."

A National Call for Moral Revival

Fifty years after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., people around the country are taking up his mantle, challenging systemic racism, poverty, the war economy, and ecological devastation. We are compelled to stand with those on the margins. Rev. Dr. William Barber, Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis, and organizations across the United States are mobilizing thousands to mass non-violent civil disobedience from May 13-June 21 at state capitals and in Washington, D.C.

Twin Cities Nonviolent Movement

AUSCP member Harry Bury has initiated a Nonviolent City effort in Minneapolis/St. Paul. The Mission of Twin Cities Nonviolent is to: reduce violence in all its forms; increase awareness and engagement in nonviolent policies and practices; bring together local community organizations, including nonprofits, religious institutions, educational institutions, and government agencies; and dismantle the structures and systems that lead to violence throughout the Twin Cities and beyond.

“Our intention is to reduce suffering in the world by challenging the unjust and oppressive social structures and by promoting peace with justice, equality and dignity for all.”

Justice for Immigrants - Action Alert!

Ask Your Representatives to Protect Dreamers by (1) Supporting H.R. 4796, the USA Act of 2018, and H.R. 3440, the DREAM Act of 2017; AND (2) Moving Legislation Forward to a Vote in the House.

Without a legislative solution, Dreamers' futures remain uncertain and they live in fear of deportation. Congress should take urgent action to protect these extraordinary young people. The U.S. Bishops support both the Dream Act and the USA Act.

  Take Action!
