Advent Prayer

God of mystery and miracles, Your Word brings light into the dark places of our lives,

Your presence gives us strength to endure when we are pushed beyond our own strength.

You find us in our lostness and with love beyond our imagining, you lead us home....

In this season of longing, grant us grace to bring all that we are to you, O Christ

  ---all the broken places

  ---all the lost wanderings

---all the weariness from trying to live lives that are pleasing to you.

Hold them all in the fullness of your love.

Then, be born in us, that we may find our home, our life, our joy in You, Lord of light and love.

Invitation from Gospel Nonviolence Working Group

“Overcome Evil with Good.” It’s the spiritual advice followed by Socially Responsible Investing (SRI), the theme for the Gospel Nonviolence December 18, 2018 Conference. It’s done by filtering out investments which produce evil, (E.G. weaponized drones) and selecting investments which do good. If money is the root of all evil, it can also be the mechanism for good. “Savage Capitalism” can be tamed, and the taming thru SRI has hardly begun.

Our guest-experts will be Sr. Barbara Jennings, CSJ of the MidWest Coalition on SRI, and Mary Beth Gallagher, Director of The TriState Coalition for SRI. Many priests have invested for retirement. Will we be enjoying it at the expense of profiting from evil? God forbid! To prepare, Sr. Barbara says we should check out www.iccr.org, the faith-based institutional experts.

AUSCP member Tom Sweetser, SJ, shared the following: Jack Jezreel (speaker at 2017 Assembly) has just published a book entitled, A New Way To Be Church: Parish Renewal from the Outside In. (Orbis Books, 2018.)  Jack created “JustFaith,” a small group process that immerses people in education and exploration of social justice issues. “The process was intended to prepare people for social mission. I was hoping this would have the effect of making people passionate about the work of mercy and justice.” (p. 121)  “JustFaith” demands a significant commitment from participants over six months, including weekly meetings, assigned reading and direct connection with those on the margins. This book does the same, asking parishes to change their vision, structures and actions.

If you know of a parish that is interested in the JustFaith Program, please notify the office at: office@uscatholicpriests.org.

Catholic Climate Covenant

The 24th Conference of the Parties  (COP24) is gathering in Katowice, Poland (Dec. 3-Dec. 14) to address climate change issues. Pope Francis urges us to pray a prayer from Laudato Si to shine a light on the need for urgent and ambitious action on climate change. (For downloadable/printable prayer go here)

AUSCP member Bob Richter has alerted us that a bi-partisan carbon fee bill has been introduced into the House of Representatives. Bob said, "Congruent with much that Laudato Si' called for to include provision for poor and marginalized people, this bill deserves the support of care of creation teams and networks, local clergy, and Catholic Bishops, Not a Red or Blue issue so everyone can get involved. It's a human issue."

The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act is a climate solution that goes further than any national policy to date, creating over 2 million new jobs, lowering health care costs, promoting energy innovation, and encouraging consumer spending. To learn more, click on the link below:

Urgent Action Alert on Immigration

Justice for Immigrants: The Trump administration has proposed rules to punish immigrants in America seeking green cards. He has unveiled new proposed regulations that penalize immigrant families for accessing basic needs to feed their children and keep their families healthy. The deadline for filing comments on this is December 10th.

If you are willing to submit your own comments, click below to reach the JFI Action Page and fill in your contact information. You will then be prompted to add your personal comments in the space between two paragraphs given, then hit "Submit."  Your comments will be sent to Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Please consider using your voice to submit an important comment!

MoveOn calls for objecting to new regulations on immigrant families by signing a petition which will be formally submitted as public comments on this measure. Sign the petition to join us in the public record today.

FutureChurch Pilgrimage

Annual Appeal

Special thanks to the 40 persons who gave online donations on November 27, Giving Tuesday! AUSCP received $36,260 in online donations. We are still waiting to hear regarding matching funds from PayPal.

With a boost from Giving Tuesday donations, the Annual Appeal has reached $73,169 from 224 donors. We are almost three quarters of the way to our goal!

Our goal for this year's appeal is to receive donations from 350 donors for a grand total of $100,000. This would represent a 40 percent increase over last year's appeal and would enable the AUSCP to move forward with plans to reach every priest in the U.S. with our message of hope and joy.

How to Reduce Your 2019 Assembly Cost by $200

If you reserve your hotel room soon for the June Assembly in St. Louis, you will see an offer for a Marriott Credit Card. If you do not currently, or within the last 2 years, have a Marriott Credit Card, you can apply for one now and get a $200 credit on the card IF you make a purchase within 3 months. Once you have the card you could register for the Assembly, and $200 of that $495 fee will be covered by your credit! (You also get 2 free nights at a Marriott hotel IF you charge $3000 on your Marriott Card within 3 months of getting it.)

For the first year there is no fee; in the second year, a fee of $95. Such offers typically allow cancellation of the card before the renewal date, so you could avoid the $95 fee for the second year if you wish. This card option is likely available until near Christmas. Be sure to look at the conditions. If it makes sense to you, AUSCP's 2019 Assembly will be yours at significantly reduced cost.

In Christ with Hope, Joy & all Blessings,

Bob BonnotAUSCP, Leadership Team Chair
