In James A. Coriden's* book  The Holy Spirit and an Evolving Church, Coriden proposes [that] moved by the Holy Spirit the church has always been evolving. The 'path of synodality' (p.161) proposed by Pope Francis implies the transforming work of the Holy Spirit. Coriden concludes that "the challenge at every level of synodality is active participation, dynamic leadership, and effectiveness."

2) How Catholic social teaching should inform legislative approaches (such as the Green New Deal) that address climate change.

3) How the US Catholic community can faithfully respond to legislative opportunities that address the climate crisis, including ideas found in the Green New Deal.

Presenters: Marianne Comfort, Justice Coordinator for Earth, Anti-Racism and Women, Sisters of Mercy of the Americas; Erin Lothes Biviano, PhD, Associate Professor of Theology, College of Saint Elizabeth

Jean Vanier Called "Living Saint"

Jean Vanier, the founder of the L’Arche and Faith & Light communities which support people with disabilities and their families, died on May 7 at age 90. Mr. Vanier inspired countless people with his simple message that people with disabilities are teachers. He exemplified the idea of Pope Francis that we need to create "field hospitals" for the marginalized.

Two recent articles in America Magazine give more information about the meaning of Vanier's life and the lessons we can learn from his ministry: Jean Vanier - Living Saint by Colleen Dulle (5/7/19); "What our lonely culture can learn from L'Arche, the Last Supper and 'love feasts'" by Blake Mayes (5/13/19).

AUSCP member Ronald LeJeune, 74, ordained in 1971 for Diocese of Toledo, died May 5, 2019. Fr. Ron served in a number of parishes during his 40 years of active ministry and taught at Holy Spirit Seminary in Toledo. He retired in 2011 and spent his retired years in Mexico. Fr. Ron was an avid Ohio State and Cleveland Browns football fan.  He loved cooking and his recipes were published in several cook books.
